Also, we wanted to include more low-cost and free ‘hands-on’ insight tools which are important for managing activities like Search, Social media and conversion rate optimisation. These don’t tend to be included on Scott’s landscape. We also wanted to highlight the most popular, well-regarded services, particularly those which can be used across all sizes of businesses rather than being affordable only by the biggest brands.

Win-win-win. The advertiser wins because they only pay when a purchase is made (as opposed to the shotgun approach of paying to advertise to the masses and waiting for a small percentage to actually buy). The affiliate wins because they make money while providing helpful advice. The customer wins because they get a trusted recommendation for something they might not otherwise have known about.
Most affiliate marketers concentrate their efforts heavily on SEO to gain traffic for their site so, if you want to become a successful affiliate marketer, you’ll need to become an SEO shark. Affiliate marketing is becoming more popular, so if you want to get one of those coveted top three spots, you’ll need to learn how to outrank your competition. Personally, I favor white hat SEO over black hat as I believe it’s more sustainable plus, as an affiliate marketer, if you create content that is hugely resourceful, it’s going to keep visitors on your site longer. I also believe that you should concentrate heavily on building a list because, if your site does eventually get penalized, you can still generate revenue by sending offers out to your list.

Finally, pop into your ad account and look at the keyword prices because expensive keywords can also drive up the payout to make the final earnings competitive but still not be necessarily outrageously high. Avoid running campaigns just because of high payouts. Otherwise, surprise factors like the ones outlined above can quickly eat up your expected earnings.
